Longmont, CO — CoverageMap.com, a leading platform in crowdsourced cellular network mapping, is thrilled to announce the launch of the all-new Coverage Map app for Android.

This update is a major milestone. The app has been re-built from the ground up over the past 10 months to provide the ultimate experience for Android users. Packed with innovative features, this release takes cellular coverage mapping to an entirely new level.

“We are delighted to bring the highly anticipated speed test feature to Android users,” said Stetson Doggett, Co-Founder of CoverageMap.com. “This launch also brings additional enhancements to the Android app. Users can enjoy a new recurring tests feature, our all-new map design, and refined user interface.”

New Features in the Updated Coverage Map App

The new Coverage Map app for Android brings an array of groundbreaking capabilities designed to empower users and improve cellular coverage mapping:

1. Speed Testing

New built-in speed test in the Coverage Map app for Android

The new built-in speed test feature allows Android users to run a test directly within the Coverage Map application.

Each test measures the download speed, upload speed, and latency of a cellular, Wi-Fi, or wired connection. A wide array of speed test servers are available across the U.S. Each server is rated for 10+ Gbps to ensure fast and accurate results.

The tags feature allows users to mark tests as indoor, outdoor, driving, or other, further helping to improve the data quality on the crowdsourced coverage map.

Users can also personalize the speed test settings to meet their specific needs. Setting a data limit allows users to control exactly how much cellular data the app consumes each month. There is an option to have the data limit reset on a certain day each month, too, to align the apps data usage with when the high-speed data of a cell phone plan is refreshed.

Additional options allow users to configure their preferred default tag, default server, and theme for the app.

2. Run Recurring Tests

Run multiple speed tests in the new Coverage Map app

The ability to run recurring tests is another standout feature of the new Coverage Map app.

Users can customize the recurring tests to run based on a set number, up to 500, or by a set time duration, up to 3 hours. Useful presets, such as driving, walking, hiking, 30 minutes, and 60 minutes, make it easy to configure the recurring tests feature with the tap of a button.

Once completed, a detailed summary screen shows the average speeds, total data usage, and individual test results for a recurring tests session.

3. No Coverage Mapping

Map areas with no cell coverage with the new Coverage Map app for Android

One of the most revolutionary features of the Android app is the ability to map no coverage zones.

When a user tries to run a test in an area with no service, the app automatically recognizes the phone has no connection and prompts the user to log the test as a no coverage zone. Once the phone returns to an area with active service, it will upload all the stored data points and display them on the map as locations with no cell service.

This groundbreaking new feature empowers users to hold carriers accountable for their coverage claims by highlighting discrepancies in their advertised coverage maps.

No coverage mapping is especially useful for documenting real-world coverage and service gaps in national parks, camp sites, and other commonly visited locations in more rural areas.

4. Crowdsourced Cellular Coverage Map

The crowdsourced cellular coverage map allows users to compare real-world performance and coverage areas between cellular networks

The app’s crowdsourced cellular coverage map remains one of its flagship features.

The map showcases real-world performance data of the cellular networks collected by real users across the U.S.

Powerful filters let users customize the map by carrier (AT&T, Boost Mobile, T-Mobile, UScellular, or Verizon), technology (LTE or 5G), speed thresholds, and more. The map also features unique visualizations, including the Best Carrier view, which instantly identifies the top-performing carrier in any location.

Users can compare carriers on metrics such as download speeds, upload speeds, and latency, all at a highly granular level.

5. Enhanced Speed Test Results Management

Easily filter and sort your speed tests in the Coverage Map app

The app provides advanced tools for sorting, filtering, and viewing all test results.

Users can filter tests by type (all, 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi, or wired), and sort by date, download speed, or upload speed.

The expanded desktop view offers an even more powerful experience. Clicking the top of any column (date, provider, connection type, location, city, download speed, upload speed, latency), instantly sorts all results by ascending order in that column. Clicking a second time switches to descending order. A universal search bar allows users to search for text in any field, whether that’s a location name, a provider name, or a specific download or upload speed.

The new Android app also supports importing speed test data from other popular speed testing apps, consolidating results into a single platform for streamlined management and comparison.

Empowering the Community to Improve Coverage Maps

Every test run in the new Android app contributes to one of the fastest-growing crowdsourced maps of cellular coverage, enabling users to paint a picture of what true cellular coverage looks like across the U.S.

With real-time updates, a points system, and user leaderboards, the app fosters a collaborative approach to improving the accuracy of cellular coverage maps for everyone.
