T-Mobile has three main networks:

  3. T-Mobile Ultra Capacity 5G

Here is a quick summary of each network:

T-Mobile 4G LTE

T-Mobile's 4G LTE network is its largest network. It covers 46.6% of the U.S. and 99% of Americans.

Median download speeds on T-Mobile's 4G LTE network are 31.8 Mbps. Median upload speeds are 5.2 Mbps.

While it may not be the fastest network, T-Mobile 4G LTE covers the most area.

T-Mobile Extended Range 5G

T-Mobile's Extended Range 5G network covers a large area thanks to using low-band 5G frequencies that can travel farther distances. The Extended Range 5G network covers 36.0% of the U.S. and reaches 325 million people.

Data speeds on low-band 5G frequencies are similar to the speeds on 4G LTE.

T-Mobile Ultra Capacity 5G

T-Mobile's Ultra Capacity 5G network is its most exciting network. It leverages mid-band and mmWave 5G frequencies to provide fast data speeds up to 3.3 Gbps.

The Ultra Capacity 5G network, abbreviated as 5G UC, is designed to handle a high volume of connected devices at the same time while maintaining exceptional performance.

Median download speeds on T-Mobile 5G UC are 248.1 Mbps, making it roughly 7.8x faster than T-Mobile's 4G LTE network.

Median upload speeds on 5G UC are 19.4 Mbps.

Unfortunately, the mid-band and mmWave 5G frequencies that enable the fast speeds of the 5G UC network do not travel as far as the low-band 5G frequencies.

As a result, 5G UC has a smaller coverage footprint and reaches only 275 million Americans.
