What network does Xfinity Mobile use?

Xfinity Mobile uses the Verizon network to provide coverage.

Since Xfinity Mobile relies on Verizon, its coverage is essentially the same as that of Verizon.

This means that Xfinity Mobile offers extensive 4G LTE and 5G coverage across the country.

In addition to Verizon, all Xfinity Mobile customers get free access to Xfinity’s network of over 19 million Wi-Fi hotspots nationwide. Usage on Wi-Fi hotspots doesn’t count towards your plan’s' high-speed data allotment.

Xfinity Mobile offers nationwide 5G coverage on Verizon’s 5G network, which covers over 230 million people or just over 69% of the U.S. population.

Xfinity Mobile also includes access to both Verizon’s 5G Nationwide and 5G Ultra Wideband networks. 

This means Xfinity Mobile customers can enjoy the fastest speeds Verizon’s network has to offer.

How fast are Xfinity Mobile's data speeds?

We used our crowd-sourced speed test data to find out. In the case of Xfinity Mobile, its median download speeds ranged from 11.1 Mbps in Alaska and up to 135.3 Mbps in Washington, DC. Median upload speeds on Xfinity Mobile ranged from 6.6 Mbps in Mississippi to 24.6 Mbps in Rhode Island. And median ping performance on Xfinity Mobile ranged from 26 ms to 128 ms.

For context, you need download speeds of about 25 Mbps to stream 4K video, 8 Mbps to stream 1080p video, 4 Mbps to stream 720p video, and 1.5 Mbps to stream 480p video.

Xfinity Mobile vs. Verizon Coverage

Xfinity Mobile uses Verizon towers, so coverage is the same between the two carriers.

Xfinity Mobile even gets access to Verizon’s domestic roaming partners.

Domestic roaming is where your phone uses a partner network for coverage in areas where your primary network doesn’t have service. 

Most times, prepaid cell phone carriers don’t get access to the same domestic roaming agreements that are negotiated by the bigger carriers.

However, Xfinity Mobile actually does get access to domestic roaming.

All this means is you’ll have more coverage in more places.

Xfinity Mobile vs. AT&T Coverage

Xfinity Mobile has a bit less coverage than AT&T.

Xfinity Mobile’s LTE network covers 67.4% of the U.S. AT&T has the largest network in the country right now, and it currently covers 78.1% of the U.S.

When it comes to 5G, Xfinity Mobile has less coverage than AT&T again. Only 14.5% of the U.S. is covered by Xfinity Mobile 5G, whereas 43.3% is covered by AT&T 5G.

Xfinity Mobile and AT&T will likely be suitable choices for many consumers, particularly in cities and in more rural areas. 

Xfinity Mobile does offer a slight advantage with its network of Wi-Fi hotspots though, which is something AT&T does not offer.

Xfinity Mobile vs. T-Mobile Coverage

Xfinity Mobile has a broader coverage than T-Mobile in terms of overall reach, covering 67.4% of the United States, whereas T-Mobile covers 46.6%. 

However, T-Mobile has a significantly larger 5G network, with 49.0% of the US covered compared to Xfinity Mobile's 5G coverage of 14.5%.

In terms of data speeds, there is a noticeable difference between the two carriers. 

According to data from our crowdsourced Speed Test Map, Xfinity Mobile's median 5G download speed stands at 187.5 Mbps, while its median upload speed is 16.8 Mbps. 

On the other hand, T-Mobile boasts much faster median 5G download and upload speeds, with 248.1 Mbps and 19.4 Mbps respectively.

The better network for you likely depends on your preferences. Xfinity Mobile provides a more extensive overall network coverage, making it a suitable choice for users who prioritize connectivity in a wider range of locations. In contrast, T-Mobile offers a larger 5G coverage area and significantly faster data speeds, making it an attractive option for those who want blazing fast speeds on their smartphone.
