giffgaff

An MVNO (mobile virtual network operator) sells mobile service without owning cellular infrastructure. MVNOs like giffgaff lease access to major carrier networks in the United Kingdom and deliver coverage using those host networks.

giffgaff uses O2 for coverage in the United Kingdom.

giffgaff uses the same networks as the major carriers, so its coverage is the coverage of its host networks. The carrier cards above rate every major network in the United Kingdom; the ones marked “Used by giffgaff” are the networks giffgaff runs on.

Search for your address on the coverage map on this page. giffgaff runs on its host networks, so their coverage is giffgaff's coverage.

Each carrier card has a five-dot rating for performance and reliability, plus an overall rating. Performance is the typical download and upload speeds and response time in real speed tests. Reliability is how fast the slowest 10% of tests are and how often tests connect, so it shows how a network holds up when it's busy. We don't have coverage data for the United Kingdom, so there is no coverage rating, and the overall rating weighs reliability 60% and performance 40%. A whole country takes in wide areas nobody lives in, so country-wide ratings are more lenient than the ratings on state, county, and city pages.

The performance metrics summarize median download speed, upload speed, and latency from crowdsourced tests on each network above. Higher download/upload and lower latency indicate a faster, more responsive connection.

The map is built from crowdsourced speed tests, so places with few recent tests can look empty. It fills in as more tests are collected.
